Grocery Operations for Carbon Emission Reductions (GROCER)

The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District received funding for the GROCER (GRocery Operations for Carbon Emission Reductions) Project. The initiative will deploy 68 Volvo and Tesla battery-electric Class 8 trucks at a major distribution center in Fresno, California, operated by OK Produce. To support the deployment, the California Energy Commission is funding at least 4.4 megawatts of DC fast charging, along with solar power generation and battery energy storage infrastructure.

Vehicles/Equipment Funded:

  • 68 battery-electric Class-8 Trucks.
  • California Energy Commission is co-funding solar power generation, battery energy storage, and DC fast-charging infrastructure.

Status Updates:

  • The project had its kick-off meeting in Summer 2024.
  • The project is in the truck deployment and infrastructure procurement phase.
