SUSTAINABLE HEAVY-DUTY INITIATIVES FOR FUTURE TECHNOLOGY

Program Impacts

SHIFT Impact & Progress

Showcasing how innovation, investment, and collaboration are delivering cleaner technologies and meaningful community benefits

SHIFT investments are delivering measurable results across California—advancing zero-emission technologies, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and improving air quality in communities most impacted by pollution. These projects are demonstrating what’s possible today while building the foundation for broader adoption—supporting public health, strengthening clean transportation markets, and driving progress toward the state’s climate goals.

Program Overview

SHIFT is designed to feed the innovation pipeline, ensuring that clean technologies for heavy-duty vehicles and equipment are commercially available to meet California’s climate targets. The program provides critical feedback to manufacturers, fleets, and agencies, helping shape the future of sustainable transportation.

Priority Population Benefits

SHIFT prioritizes investments that deliver meaningful benefits to California’s most impacted communities. Historically, approximately 99% of SHIFT funding has supported projects located in or directly benefiting priority populations, and this commitment will remain central to the program moving forward.

Priority populations include:

  • Disadvantaged communities (SB 535)
  • Low-income communities (AB 1550)
  • Low-income households (AB 1550)
